A model of the genetic structure of cometary nuclei is examined which consists of a plane rotating system comprising relatively large fragments of an ice-rich body: halves or quarters, etc., with a train of numerous clumps, each larger than 10-20 meters. It is suggested that this group model of the nucleus is observed during collisional evolution. A variety of consequences following from this model are examined, and compared with observed cometary features. It is argued that the impact mechanism plays a significant role in nuclei with a group structure at the stage of collisional evolution, anad that the absolute magnitude of such comets may be attenuated by several stellar magnitudes due to the transition from the impact mechanism to a purely sublimational one.
