Correlations between the nonthermal X-ray and radio luminosities and the full widths of the Balmer emission lines are established for the active-nucleus galaxies cataloged by Steiner. The existence of such correlations would be compatible with an equipartition of energy between the nonthermal radiation and the motion of the gas clouds in the broad-line formation zone. Vaiana has found a similar correlation for the X rays emitted by the hot coronas of rapidly rotating single stars, suggesting that, as in the SS 433 binary system, the radiation from active nuclei may be anisotropic, and their structure might be double.
