Correlation coefficients are given between values for daily ranges of the horizontal magnetic component at seven different latitudes. These show a coherence in the magnetic variation on quiet days that suggests an extraterrestrial cause for the variability from day to day of ionospheric electric currents. It is shown also that changes in the strength and latitude of the equatorial electrojet over Peru are independent of changes in the strength and focus-latitude of the quiet-day current system over the northern hemisphere.
