It is determined that the differences in the correlation coefficients between cosmic ray intensity and the geomagnetic index Kp during various time intervals between solar activity maxima or minima are related to the reversal of the solar magnetic field. The values of the correlation coefficients between the monthly averages of the intensity of the cosmic radiation intensity recorded at several different stations and the monthly averages of Kp, calculated for various time intervals (successive solar activity minima or maxima), were determined for solar cycles No. 18, 19, 20, and 21. Results show that the behavior of the correlation coefficients found by Shea and Smart (1981) for the period between the solar maxima of cycles No. 20 and 21 is analogous to that observed during the period bounded by the solar maxima of cycles No. 18 and 19.
