Hernqvist (1955) and Jones and Emeleus (1964) have observed simultaneous high- and low-frequency oscillations in gas-discharge plasmas at pressures on the order of 0.1 millitorr. In the experiments described, the correlation between spontaneous low- and high-frequency oscillations excited in an inequilibrium weakly-ionized plasma by an electron beam is studied. The results obtained with mercury vapor discharges at pressures between 0.1 and 1.0 millitorr indicate that the nature of the correlation depends on the type of the low-frequency oscillations.
