The interstellar water maser source W 49 (H2O) has been monitored on a nearly weekly basis from April 1974 to May 1975. During this period, correlated flux changes have been observed in several velocity components of the emission spectrum. Events occurred simultaneously to within the rise time of about 1 million sec, a time comparable to the projected light travel time between the separate emission centers, as previously determined by VLBI measurements of the relative positions of these centers. Only the velocity components clustered together within an active region of linear dimension 3 times 10 to the 16th cm are found to vary collectively. The present observations require that the correlated features must be excited by a maser pump which is radiative and common, rather than collisional and individual, respectively.
