We propose to observe the nearby L8 dwarf DENIS-P J0255.0-4700 with ATCA simultaneously with Chandra as part of a survey of magnetic activity in L and T brown dwarfs. While there is evidence that Halpha and X-rays decline with cooler effective temperatures in ultracool dwarfs, radio emission shows a different behavior, perhaps due to a different emission mechanism (electron cyclotron maser) than in active late-type stars (gyrosynchrotron).
