Convective instability in a star, resulting in increases in luminosity by many orders of magnitude, is modeled using nonlinear helical MHD instability in a plasma cylinder. The two-dimensional problem is analyzed numerically, taking both initial velocity perturbations and ideal gas motions into account. The internal plasma layers were found to move to the surface of the cylinder. In other words, the plasma was turned inside out.
