The dynamics of the spiral structure of galaxies is modeled by a rotating gravitating disk. Attention is given to the two types of solitons, supersonic and subsonic, and to the characteristics of their propagation in the disk. It is found that the subsonic solitons propagate only in the case of Jeans stability, while the supersonic solitons propagate under conditions of slight instability. Three conditions are imposed on the model, which permit analysis using standard perturbation theory methods: maximum instability growth rate is small compared with rotation frequency, the size of the wave number instability region is small compared with the size of the wave number, and the size of the instability region in coordinate space is large in comparison with the wavelength.
