The possibility of controlling the motion of a system of two tethered bodies through periodic variation of the tether length is investigated. The relationship between translational and rotational motions resulting from the constant nature of the system's kinetic momentum vector is analyzed, and it is shown that the kinetic momentum vectors of rotational and orbital motions can be controlled by changing the tether length. For several tether length control schemes, first-approximation equations are obtained using the averaging method, and parameter variation rates are estimated.
