The possibility of improving the performance of a triggered vacuum spark source for a grazing incidence spectrograph in the 500 down to 80 A range is investigated. A BRV source was modified by adding a capillary on top of the anode, increasing the condenser capacity by a factor of five, and employing a torroidal mirror focusing system to utilize the full spectrograph aperture and remove its astigmatism. The obtained results indicate a 200-fold gain over previously used sources and allow spectrographic recording with only one flash while maintaining good spectral resolution.
