Following a recently proposed confinement generating scenario \cite{Di}, we
provide a new string inspired model with a massive dilaton and a general
dilaton-gluon coupling. By solving analytically the equations of motion, we
derive a new class of confining interquark potentials, which includes most of
the QCD motivated potential forms given in the literature.
