Topics presented include the characteristics and frequency of occurrence of Trimpi events recorded during 1982 at Sanae, Antarctica, the Trimpi effect in Antarctica, lightning-induced perturbations on VLF subionospheric transmissions, and quasi-periodic particle precipitation and Trimpi activity at Halley, Antarctica. Also presented are in situ observations of magnetospheric electron scattering by a VLF transmitter, broad-band auroral VLF hiss and inverted-V electron precipitation in the polar magnetosphere, and the effects of a cold ion parallel beam on electromagnetic waves with frequency near an ion gyrofrequency during plasmaspheric refilling.
