A major difficulty in nonlinear problems of space navigation is the multiplicity of minima of the functional used in the least squares method. The present paper establishes conditions under which the global-minimum estimate is justified. The necessity of accounting for nonlinearity is connected with the magnitude of measurement errors and with the size of the region of a priori values of the estimated parameters.
