Compton Scattering: Plasma, Background Radiation: Cosmic
Scientific paper
Motivated by observations of possible spectral distortions of the 3° cosmic background radiation, the author investigates the nature of the Compton scattering of photons on the electrons in a plasma. He derives sum rules which show that the resulting photon diffusion equation for an arbitrary interacting plasma, which may even be in a quantum regime, remains that of a classical, non-interacting electron gas.
