Motivated by the fact that CH4 is a major constituent of the outer planets, a simple electronic model is used to predict the variation of the X-H equilibrium bond length for condensed XH4 under pressure fore heavy central atoms X. In particular, an analytical expression is obtained relating the X-H length in the condensed phase to the free space bond length.
