Normalized, closed-form, third-order aberration equations are developed for the configuration and optical performance of spherical compound catadioptric telescopes. The equations are applied to two-lens telescopes, including aplanat and anastigmats with equal bending on the correctors and aplanats with a common curvature on the second corrector element and the secondary mirror. The equations are also considered for Maksutov designs, such as those with aluminized spot secondary mirrors and compound Maksutov aplanats. It is noted that by selecting values for the scaling parameters, the normalized data of any design may be converted into physical terms for radii and spacings.
