Recent studies of the elemental, isotopic, and ionic composition of the solar wind are reviewed. Satellite observations of helium in the solar wind are discussed with emphasis on the velocities, abundances, and temperatures of helium ions relative to those of hydrogen ions. Satellite and lunar-foil data on the He-4(+) abundance and the He-4/He-3 ratio of the present-day solar wind are summarized. Problems in determining the abundances of heavy elements, isotopes, and ions are described together with data on solar-wind particles trapped in lunar soils. Attempts to determine the parameters of the 'recent' and ancient solar winds from lunar samples are discussed.
