The field of vectors acting along a spherical surface can be decomposed into spheroidal and toroidal components. To describe the deformations due to elastic forces acting at the surface of the Earth or at the core-mantle boundary, the spheroidal shear Love-Shida numbers are needed together with the toroidal Shida numbers. The values of these numbers were determined for a spherically symmetric non-rotating elastic isotropic model earth. For the calculations the isotropic preliminary reference earth model were used.
