The Space Dynamics Laboratory at Utah State University (SDL/USU) designed, built, and calibrated the Midcourse Space Experiment's (MSX) spatial IR imaging telescope (SPIRIT III) spectrometer and radiometer as part of the MSX program. During calibration, one of the parameters characterized was the spectrometer's spatial responsivity, which determines the relative object-space detector positions, maps the detector field of view, and computes the effective field-of-view solid angle. SDL/USU performed this calibration both on the ground and on-orbit. The two calibration efforts produced similar results, although detector position shifted about 264 (mu) rad on-orbit. The methods and results from these two calibration efforts are compared and the various approaches to determine a sensor's spatial responsivity are discussed.
