The Goins, Dainty and Toksoz (1981) lunar seismology model is criticized as an attempt to overcome the problem of determining lunar seismic event location parameters, as well as the velocity structure of the lunar mantle, using very limited seismograph station data. It is noted that, despite the large quantity and high quality of earth S-wave data, no final determination has been possible for the shear velocity of the earth's mantle. The detailed shear velocity structure of the lunar model in question is therefore suspect, in view of the small quantity of lunar S-wave data accumulated and its poor quality, due to the scattering of lunar seismic waves.
