Accurate simulations of solar flares require accurately modeling of both the thermal and non-thermal particle distributions. Most current flare models concentrate on the evolution of the non-thermal particle distributions while treating the thermal plasma as static. In order to improve flare simulations Montana State University has developed simulation codes that couple the evolution of the non-thermal particle distribution and the thermal plasma of a flare in a self-consistent manner.
