High-resolution active laser ranging systems for Moon, Mars and beyond
are analyzed. Both stand-alone laser-ranging transponders, and
laser-communications systems configured to provide millimeter-level
ranging data are analyzed. It is shown that a combined dual-function
laser-communications and laser-ranging system is feasible.
