An earlier determination of the photoelectric contribution to the magnetospheric electron density is reviewed on the basis of an opposing assumption concerning the pitch redistribution of the collision component. It is found that the resultant total emergent spectra are of the same order for either model, being primarily determined by the collision-free component. For individual energy ranges, significant changes are found, however, in the pitch angle distributions of the emergent flux which, for specified parameters, tend to be appreciably more isotropic for the new model considered. This is attributable to a greater transmission of electrons at both extremes of pitch angle. A few remarks are made concerning an analysis of the heights within the atmosphere from which originate particular components (both energy and pitch) of the emergent spectra.
