We show two-dimensional numerical simulations on gravitational collapse of rotating gas clouds. In order to take into account of temperature change during the collapse, we assume the polytropic equation of state, P = K ρ γ . An initially filamentary polytropic cloud fragments to form a collapsing rotating gas disk in our simulations. The quantitative results depend critically on polytropic index γ. Models of γ < 1 form geometrically very thin disks, which are unstable against fragmentation (Toomre 1964). Models of γ > 1 form geometrically thick disks, which are stable against fragmentation. The latter models form rotationally supported disks at the stage of a finite central density and our numerical simulations show also the growth of a rotationally supported disk by radial accretion.
