Two topics are discussed in this paper, namely, the question of whether the constants of physics, in particular, the gravitational constant, vary in time, and various theories, in particular Dirac's hypothesis of large numbers, concerning the existence and coincidence of various large dimensionless quantities in cosmology and microphysics. Recent attempts at providing a theoretical foundation for these coincidences are reviewed.
