Observations of the CO-13 J = 6 to 5 emission from a variety of galactic star forming regions are presented. Sources spanning a luminosity in the range of 1 to 106 of the solar luminosity were investigated. The high line intensity confirms the presence of large column densities of warm molecular gas in typical regions of massive star formation. The CO-13/CO-12 J = 6 to 5 intensity ratio is typically much higher than the CO-13/CO-12 abundance ratio. Hence, even the mid-J transitions of the main CO isotope are very optically thick in most sources. The CO-13 6 to 5 emission is found to arise from quiescent gas. Strip maps of selected sources show that the CO-13 6 to 5 emitting gas is confined to narrow zones close to the H-2 regions in these star forming regions. A detailed multiline study of the molecular gas from NGC 2024 is presented.
