We propose to use the millimetre system and new CABB 2GHz backend to start a study of mapping CO in high-redshift radio galaxies. The current proposal focuses on two high-z radio galaxies for which a wealth of optical information is already available (MRC 0943-242 and MRC 2102-242). These two radio galaxies are among the most active and gas-rich systems known in the early Universe and their redshifts (z~2.5-3) correspond to a critical epoch in galaxy formation. Aim of our project is to investigate the assembly of massive, gas-rich systems at these redshifts and study in detail their star formation properties, AGN fueling, cold gas content/kinematics and gaseous environment. Millimetre observations of these two systems will provide excellent test cases for the performance of the new CABB system and will provide us with the necessary expertise for starting a more systematic study of molecular gas in Lya-rich high-z radio galaxies next year. This proposal is a re-submission of an accepted proposal in the 2009APR term, in which we only asked for observations of one of the two targets.
