We propose to amass a significant sample of young stars with ages in the range thought to be crucial for understanding protoplanetary disk evolution and planet formation. We will use HYDRA on the 4m telescope to spectroscopically select members of young southern open clusters previously observed photometrically by us on the CTIO 1.5m. The spectra will allow us to reject foreground/background field stars which contaminate the photometric samples, providing us with a clean membership sample. We will also be able to determine accurate spectral types for deriving reddening to individual stars, allowing us to make the best possible determinations of cluster ages. Our cluster sample has been chosen to target the age range ~ 10 Myr thought to be the approximate epoch of planet formation; there are currently no clusters with well-determined ages in this range. The identified cluster members will provide the samples needed for followup infrared studies of disk evolution.
