Although most Pc 1-2 waves observed in Earth’s magnetosphere occur on closed field lines and are driven by ring current or plasma sheet ions that convect sunward from the magnetotail, such waves have also been observed in the plasma mantle, poleward of the cusp region, in association with upgoing, reflected cusp ions. In this study we present additional examples of such waves and associated ion distributions observed by the Cluster spacecraft, simultaneous with ground-based observations in Antarctica using search coil magnetometers at McMurdo and AGO P1, and in Arctic Canada, using fluxgate magnetometers at Clyde River and Igloolik in the MACCS array.
