The relations between 11 years running means of different indices can be used to establish equivalent annual values and thus to extend the data base to years before a specific parameter was measured. For climate change studies, an enlarged data base is produced covering the 17th to 20th centuries. It appears that during the Maunder minimum of solar activity the midlatitude peak electron density, height and electron temperature were extremely low. The frequency of ionospheric and geomagnetic disturbances increased during the 20th century.
