Cleanliness during the construction and operations of the Sudbury Neutrino Observatory has been an essential part of SNO's successful achievement of the required low backgrounds for its solar neutrino measurements. The setting up of the laboratory as a clean room, some aspects of clean construction and the monitoring systems used are described.
