The classification schemes of Levy (1968) and Ernst (1968) for exact solutions to the Einstein field equations which assume stationary axisymmetric gravitational fields are briefly outlined. It is shown that the solution offered by Gurses and Guven (1975) is a special case of one of Levy's classes and that the cylindrically symmetric solutions presented by Davies and Caplan (1971) must belong to the same class.
