Gratings
Scientific paper
Two processes are currently used for the manufacturing of masters of diffraction gratings: diamonds ruling on interferometrically controlled engines and, since its introduction in 1966, holographic recording. The classical process is still preferred in case of low groove densities, IR range or particular groove profiles. Holographic gratings allow a groove density higher than 6000 gr/mm: as an example, some properties of the gratings used on the high resolution spectrograph on STSI are given.
