The charmonium model has been effective in describing cbar c bound mesons below the D/line D threshold, but it cannot accommodate several recently discovered charmonium-like states above 3.8 GeV/c2. I provide a brief review of the expectations from the charmonium model and present results from the BABAR experiment including the X(3872) and a possible separate resonance X(3875), a resonance near 3.93 GeV/c2 in B decays to J/ψωK, and two resonances in initial state radiation (ISR) decays.
