Charge-coupled devices (CCDs) are to be utilized as charged-particle detectors for ρ R and implosion symmetry diagnostics on the Ω-Upgrade facility and NOVA. Using a large range of ~MeV charged particles, comprehensive studies have been performed on several different CCDs in order to establish that both the energy of the particle and its identity (e.g. H, D, or T) can be determined. We also show the response of the CCDs to an absolutely calibrated source of 14-MeV neutrons. We report on the results of these experiments and the manner in which the CCDs are being incorporated in the design and fabrication of the charged-particle spectrometers for Ω-Upgrade and NOVA.
