We provide an overview of the hot DQ white dwarf variables with attention to their emerging group properties. We present recent results, including the discovery of a new, large-amplitude variable from the 2QZ survey, and speculate that the DQ variables are a class of pulsators analogous to the ZZ Cetis with a similar variety of pulse shapes, which depend on temperature and spherical harmonic degree.
