The properties of low-intensity solar flares are discussed, with particular attention given to the observation of increases in proton fluxes with short decay times which are positively associated with solar flares of low intensity. An example of such an event is examined. It is noted that the observed rapid rises are superimposed on slower diffusion rises continuing for periods in excess of ten hours. It is also shown that the rapid rises in proton fluxes are typical of flares occurring within a certain range of solar longitudes.
