Quasi-periodic fadings observed for a period of two years (1981 and 1982) in the nighttime VLF and LF atmospherics exhibit a good correlation with the geomagnetic activity index, Ap. The fading characteristics have been discussed in the light of large-scale TIDs generated in the polar region during the period of geomagnetic activity. The percentage of occurrence of nighttime fadings in different ranges of Ap is almost same in the monsoon and postmonsoon periods. Moreover, the average fade period appears to be independent of the variation of climatic condition. The frequency spectra of the fade amplitude show a decrease with increasing frequency in the monsoon, while the reverse is definitely true in the postmonsoon period.
