Scandinavian twin auroral radar experiment (STARE) measurements of ionospheric electric fields are used to obtain Pc 5 polarization maps covering all of the STARE field of view, where the electric fields have been deduced from electron Hall drift velocities measured to spatial and temporal resolutions of 20 x 20 sq km and 20 or 60 sec, respectively, over a 160,000 sq km area. The FFT algorithm is applied to time series of both the north-south and east-west electric field components for each of the (about 400) geographic points within the STARE field of view. By retaining both the amplitudes of, and relative phase between, the north-south and east-west Fourier transformed components, the complete polarization state of the Pc 5 electric field can be determined at the geographic points and at each of the discrete frequencies obtained by the FFT algorithm. Selected events that support the hydromagnetic field line resonance theory of micropulsations are analyzed.
