The large ionizational calorimeter at the Tien-Shan cosmic-ray station was used to study the form of nuclear cascades in extensive air showers. In interactions of nucleons with energies above 5-10 TeV, new unstable particles were found to be generated which are absent at lower energies. These particles, which transfer energy deep into the cascade, have a lifetime in the range of 10 to the -13th to 10 to the -12th sec. The generation cross section of these particles is large, reaching a value of 45 percent of the cross section of the nucleon-lead inelastic interaction.
