In this proposal we are requesting time to map the Vela C complex with the Mopra telescope, to investigate the dynamics of the molecular gas . The Mopra results will be compared with Herschel HOBYS observations, which will determine the protostellar and stellar content of the complex. The combination of the two sets of data will allow us to determine the importance of external triggers for star formation in this nearby massive molecular cloud complex. Mapping of the molecular transitions with Mopra will allow the calculation of the spatial power spectrum, and the characterisation of the driving scales of turbulence and their relative strengths.
