Ionospheric changes in the mid-latitude F2-region, associated with a major substorm event of September 18,1974, are studied using the drift data from incoherent scatter radar and ionosonde data from meridional and zonal chains of stations in Europe. These changes are then simulated using the Servo model for the F-region. The results show clear evidence of large equatorward wind and of significant protonospheric input flux following the substorm onset.
