Sudden ionospheric disturbances (SIDs) measured at very low frequencies
(VLF) during the solar active years are compared with those occurring
during solar quiet years. There is a solar cycle dependence of the low
altitude ionosphere characteristics related to the behavior of the
ionospheric parameter L.
