We present results from the first X-ray analysis of the diffuse hot ionized gas in IC131, a giant HII region in M33 observed with Chandra as part of the ChASeM33 survey. The diffuse X-ray emission seems to occupy only the lower half of a large wind-blown bubble (r 100pc). Spectra of the diffuse X-ray emission seem to indicate that the gas has a thermal component. Compared to NGC604, another giant HII region studied as part of the ChASeM33 survey (Tuellmann et al. 2008), the X-ray gas in IC131 seems to be unusually hot (2.4The main scope of this work is to constrain the origin of the emission, to investigate if the gas has a nonthermal component, and to examine possible mechanisms that can produce such hot plasmas.
