CHaMP is surveying the earliest phases of massive star formation by compiling the most uniform and least biased database of such regions. We propose to continue the CO mapping for CHaMP begun in 2009. With the 90 GHz dense-gas mapping program from 2006-07 complete, we plan to relate the dense-gas conditions to the physics (temperature, density, mass, luminosity, kinematics) of the larger Giant Molecular Cloud (GMC) envelopes. We will analyse the contribution of the environment of a GMC to the physical state of the dense clumps, and to the properties of the clusters that form from them. The unbiased sample will reveal what the important stages of evolution are for GMCs and their clumps, and their lifetimes. The statistics of lifetimes and physical parameters are important inputs to models, which are still poorly constrained.
