The paper presents an analysis of solar-wind-velocity variations during the intersection of 'thick' sector boundaries of the IMF. It is shown that the relative velocity value depends on features of the IMF configuration in the boundary region. The results obtained are interpreted using a model describing magnetic-field reconnection on the interplanetary current sheet.
