The front structure of the beam injected into the ionosphere under conditions corresponding to the Electron Echo experiment is investigated. The coherence is shown to arise because of the bunching of the beam front. The Cerenkov radiation of the bunched beam is considered. Results indicate that the field generated by leading group particles is a type of sine electrostatic wave. The wave has an amplitude in the beam region large enough to trap the leading group electrons in the wave troughs. In the consideration of coherent and incoherent radiation the incoherent radiation shows the rms amplitude to be about fifty times smaller than the maximum amplitude of the coherent radiation.
