The future extragalactic distance scale study from James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) has the potential to deliver an accurate measurement of Hubble constant (Ho) to within few percent level, which helps in breaking the degeneracy between OmegaM and Ho in CMB measurements. This is because JWST will operate in the infrared, thus significantly reducing the influence of extinction. Motivated by this, we derive Spitzer IRAC band period-luminosity (PL) relations from LMC Cepheids which can be applied to future distance scale measurements with JWST. To test these PL relations, we search for extragalactic Cepheids in nearby galaxies using Spitzer Archival data and use these relations to derive the distances to these galaxies.
This work is based [in part] on archival data obtained with the Spitzer Space Telescope, which is operated by the Jet Propulsion Laboratory, California Institute of Technology under a contract with NASA. Support for this work was provided by an award issued by JPL/Caltech.
