The central profiles of a large sample of 75 elliptical galaxies have been derived from high-resolution CCD imaging, and a study has been made of a possible correlation between central brightness profiles and isophotal shapes. It is found that all disk E's have peaked central profiles, unresolved by the observational material, while a fair proportion of boxy or irregular E's have flat, well-resolved central profiles. This result strengthens the physical similarities between disk E's and SO's, supports the assumption that isophotal shapes reflect evolutionary and structural differences among E's, and suggests that disk E's form with more dissipation than boxy or irregular E's.
